Part 2 of my Journey into Truck Simulation

Welcome Back for part 2 of my journey into Truck Simulation.

So I just got my first Force Feedback wheel the Logitech G29 and boy oh boy is this a game changer.

Now back to immersion.  Well I lost my rumble pedals with the upgrade to the G29 so I was on a mission to get it back.  I didnt have an Arduino but I did have a fine fella in the RBR community come through with a awesome app that would allow me to get telemetry data for a rumble mod.

I'm pretty messy when I tinker and the floor is my workbench

A glue gun is a necessary tool in my arsenal its only 2nd to my soldering iron.

Motors mounted and man it was sweet

Remember what I said about hot glue

Old wired Xbox 360 controller going to good use.

Next up with all my time being spent racing rally's all over the world in Richard Burns Rally I had to have a sequential shifter.

Once again repurposing an xbox controller now I could fly through the gears.
During this time I created CrSimRacer on Youtube.

At this point I was pretty invested in driving sims.  I was loving Richard Burns Rally but little did I know a bug was going to but me soon.

It was around Thanksgiving 2023 when I saw it for a measly $4.99 I just couldnt pass it up.  I figured after watching a few people play I could check it out.  American Truck Simulator was mine.

I quickly got to work researching what I would need to get the most out of the game.  My first venture was a simple button box out of parts I had lying around.  Now I could control my lights, wipers, windows and trailer attachment.  Things were getting more fun by the minute.  I also realized something.  I really enjoyed this game. I was smiling ear to ear and just couldnt get enough.

I was able to catch a slick sale on Amazon during the holidays and snagged two 24" curved monitors to match my center monitor.  Now I was able to line everything up finally and run higher than 60hz.  It was these small steps that I look back on and really appreciate.  It was coming together.

At this point there was no turning back I was a virtual trucker :-)

Small additions were made almost daily in my search for immersion and the perfect setup.

Button Box #2 was created now I had a keyed ignition things were really feeling good.  I was getting closer and closer to my end goal. I wanted to be able to interact with the game with out feeling like I was playing on a computer.  No more Keyboard unless I really need it.  In the new button box I was able to map buttons for the radio, GPS, Route Advisor, Maps and much more.  Between the two boxes I had a total of 24 buttons and switches I could use.

Here is the build video for the button box.

That will conclude part 2 of my journey into Truck Simulation.  Stay tuned for part 3.

Thank you
